COVID-19, Precedent, and Slippery Slopes

I have been watching the chaos ensue since this COVID-19 charade has completely shut down our country. Our economy has come to a screeching halt as the government is doing what it does best, telling the people what to do and using the law to do it. However, there is one difference here that I must reference in regard to the actions of the Federal Government. President Trump has demonstrated a constitutional awareness that few in his position have ever shown. This signals a degree of humility that seems to be non-existent in many of our elected officials in this day and age. I am referring to the position that he has taken, that involves leaving decisions that affect the daily lives of Americans and their families, up to state and local governments. He has made it a point to announce Federal guidelines to offer some direction to the respective governors of the sovereign states in the union. The Federal Government is acting within the boundaries of the Federalist ideology and the concept of limited government. That being said, the sovereign states are not permitted to violate constitutional rights, as the US Constitution is the supreme law of the land and it is not negotiable when it comes to God given rights.

We have seen governors that have issued draconian restrictions on the people of their state with no empirical evidence to justify the power grab. I some cases, the recent numbers and stats actually suggest the opposite.    As of right now, we have doctors that that were initially predicting unprecedented death and misery, that are now conceding that at the end of the day COVID-19 may not be any more significant that a severe seasonal influenza. Dr. Fauci that is on President Trump’s Coronavirus task force, wrote an article for the New England Journal of Medicine on March 26th, 2020 is now conceding that there is a very good possibility that when everything is all said and done, the mortality rate of COVID-19 will be aligned with a typical rate for severe seasonal flu at around .01%, when the factor in the cases that are not documented due to lack of symptoms. I have worked in the medical field for the last 14 years and I started seeing inconsistencies in the information being provided from the get go, before this was a huge story. I questioned everything because misinformation was rampant and I knew that we were being taken for a ride. We are still being deceived by the media and the only truth is coming out of the task force’s daily briefings.

The governors of Nevada and Michigan have both went so far as to prohibit the prescription of promising medication being used for coronavirus. Governors prohibiting doctors from exercising their discretion? Since when was this a function of government, at any level? What about stay at home orders, effectively making people prisoners in the own homes. Some states are enforcing these directives under the threat of fines or arrests. Americans seem very eager to hand over their God given rights at the first sign any crisis or major event.   We saw this happen just after 9/11 with almost no pushback, and now with COVID-19 everyone seems to be onboard with locking themselves in their homes and residing in complete isolation.

How much more are we going to give up? Blind trust and dependence on government must end. The precedent we are setting is frightening. The slippery slopes that we are crafting will continue to advance the destruction of our Constitution and the mere concept of liberty. Even if you trust current state and Federal leadership 100% to do the right thing, the precedent being set will open the door for other progressive leaders in the future to enact these measures in the face of a So-called “crisis” to “protect” the people at the expense of our freedoms. Precedent, slippery slopes, and public ignorance in the face of the criminal enterprise that we call the media, will put an end to this country if we as a society, do not wake up and snap out of our complacency.
